Researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Maryam Farvid and scientists from Harvard t. h. Chan School of Public Health, studied how diet affects cancer risk when teenagers.They analyzed the results of the Nurses Health Study, that a survey of nurses who fill in a detailed questionnaire about diet and health outcomes, including cancer. Half of the women who followed 90,000 of these surveys were asked to answer questions about the diet while a teenager.

As a result, their average consumption of three servings of fruit per day had a 25 percent lower risk of developing cancer of the breast compared to those who only eat half a serving of fruit.

"Fruit lowers the risk of breast cancer because they contain fiber, while the natural fruit juice often has no fiber in it," said Farvid.
Meanwhile, other research which was also published in the BMJ, found women who consume alcohol drinks twice a day at risk 30 percent affected by breast cancer.
According to Farvid, research is also important for the schools to provide healthy food or enter into healthy eating programs at the school.
He said, many chronic diseases due to unhealthy eating patterns over the years. To that end, healthy eating habits should be applied early on.
"This study underscores the importance of what a young girl eating for good health in the future," said Farvid.
